Plein Air, Continued

Yesterday was what is called a paint-out in Midway. You bring your blank canvas or panel in the morning and they stamp it on the back to show it wasn't painted yet. Then we were allowed to venture around the village within two blocks of main street to find appropriate subjects. It is an awesome village with pasture land and streams all around. I only went about three blocks to the east and two blocks north to the edge of the village and there was a lovely view of cows grazing in a field beyond a fence. After I started painting the cows I looked up and they had disappeared. The titles came from a neighbor who gave me the names of the property owners. These had to be finished and framed by noon for display in the community center for the rest of the day. I actually was able to deliver them by 10:30. (fast painter:) A delightful lady from California saw them and claimed them.

Here's the finished painting.

Plein Air

This will be a longer post than I usually do since I spent the day plein air painting up in the Heber Valley for the upcoming show on Friday eve. This was actually a new experience for me as I usually like the control of my studio but the requirement for the show is they had to be painted plein air and done this week.

I began my day painting a cabin near the headwaters of the Provo River.

Across the road was a rise which afforded an expansive view of the Heber Valley.

Biking for the Soul

A couple of week ago a group from our church met at the source of the Jordan River where it comes out of Utah Lake. There is a wonderful bike trail that begins there and actually follows the river and meanders up the Utah Valley all the way to the Great Salt Lake. We experienced beautiful scenery and an abundance of wildlife. Some of the favorites were the family of Sand Hill Cranes
and the most impressive was the Yellowheaded Blackbird.

Here are the paintings which were inspired by the trip.
